Conficker is a new breed of self-updating worm, and is difficult to avoid. Conficker takes advantage of a vulnerability in Microsoft’s software and has infected at least 3 million computers (possibly more). This makes it one of the most severe computer security problems in recent years.
Conficker will try to detect your Administrator password to gain access to your computer. It then infects removable devices and network shares with an autorun file that executes as soon as a USB drive or other infected device is connected to a victim PC. Conficker can be used to send spam and attack web sites. No one knows specifically what it does yet, but research shows it can receive instructions remotely and can be used in a variety of malicious attacks.
